Smart Cities Pollution Monitoring System


Below is some information about me and the project I am working on.

About me

I am a student doing computer science honours degree. My project is about the air pollution. I am working on the Networking Layer of this project.

About the Project

As the rapid development of the city, with the introduction of more industrial production, air pollution are listed as one of the worst toxic pollution problems. Air pollution has become a global crisis, with the world health organization reporting on 600.000 people alone in Africa died as a result of being overly exposed to polluted air.The project is to create a system that can collect real time air information and send to the users. This project can help us to know where the most air pollution area is and how to improve the air environment around us. The project will be developed around a four-layer framework. The recruitment of the Networking Layer is to help the Sensing Layer to transmit data to the Middleware Layer.

We will keep uploading the processing of the project we are doing.

Steps

I have finished some research about the project. The idea of the Networking Layer is to use Arduino board and some network commutation modules to connect the Sensing Layer and Middleware Layer. The requirements, the design and the implementation of the Networking Layer are completed. I have built a prototype of the Networking Layer system.

Now I am woking on the test part of the system. The test includes: Basic Functions test, Geo-location test, Time-of-the-Day test and Wireless range test to see if the system can meet the requirements of our project.

Next year, we would like to integrate the whole system including Sensing Layer, Networking Layer and Middleware Layer and try to test it in the city.
